The National Technical Museum opens to the public again

The National Technical Museum in Prague was opened on 16 February 2011 on the occasion of the birthday of the eminent Czech architect, builder and patron of culture, Josef Hlávka. The museum has been closed since 2006, when visitors were last able to view its exhibitions. Demanding reconstruction work lasting two years was performed while the museum was closed. This was followed by renovation of the interior accompanied by establishment of new exhibitions.
Five exhibitions will be on show in the first phase. Visitors can look forward to authentic historical cars, aircraft and motorcycles in the transport hall. They will be able to view the most beautiful works of Czech architecture in the Architecture, construction and design exhibition. Visitors will be able to follow the technical development of printing from the invention of letterpress printing to the present day in a hall that evokes the atmosphere of a printing works. A period photographic studio provides an insight into unique devices from the very beginnings of photography and a tour of this can be rounded off with a visit to an exhibition that uncovers the history of astronomy.
 
In the future, visitors will be able to look forward to the following exhibitions: Technology in the Household, The Story of the National Technical Museum, Mining – the Coal and Ore Mine, The History of Iron and Photo-Cinema.
