From November 16 to 22, 2009, the VIENNA ART WEEK 2009, an initiative of the Vienna Dorotheum conceived by Art Cluster Vienna, will be going into its fifth round, the event motto this year is TEMPTATION FOR ART. Museums, galleries, and not least many internationally recognized artists have put Vienna on the international art radar in the past few years. For five years now, the VIENNA ART WEEK has contributed to this trend, bringing international museum directors, curators, collectors and critics together with personalities from the Viennese art scene.

The member institutions of the Art Cluster Vienna cooperating for the VIENNA ART WEEK 2009 – Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, Albertina, Architekturzentrum Wien, Belvedere, departure wirtschaft, kunst und kultur GmbH, DOROTHEUM, ESSL MUSEUM, KÖR Public Art Vienna , KUNSTHALLE wien, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Künstlerhaus, Leopold Museum, LIECHTENSTEIN MUSEUM, MAK Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) Vienna, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, MuseumsQuartier Wien, Association of Modern Art Galleries, Secession, and WIEN MUSEUM – together with other program partners – as, e.g., ADVANCED MINORITY CUBICLE Contemporary Artspace, COCO (Contemporary Concerns), K48 – Offensive for Contemporary Perception, Song Song – have drawn up a far broader program this year, which provides occasion for both art experts and the wider art-interested public to enjoy and be inspired by the pleasurable temptations of the rich and diverse art scene in and around Vienna.

Exclusive guided tours of special shows and permanent exhibitions, exciting insights into public and private art collections, city walks to artworks in the public realm, studio visits with artists, architects, designers, and fashion-makers, exhibition openings of art institutions and galleries, performances, conversations with artists and collectors, lecture and a high-caliber panel discussion program will be creating an inspiring and creative atmosphere for networking, exchange, and communication.

Featuring about 60 individual events, the VIENNA ART WEEK is the largest annual festival spanning art from the Baroque to the present day in Vienna. The goal of the event is to focus visual art activities so as to help positioning Vienna internationally as a lively and innovative art location. With the opening of the program concept, the VIENNA ART WEEK 2009 seeks to address a new public so as to broaden the basis for increased interest in art and architecture.
