The Czech Republic has won the Eurovision Song Contest created for pupils by an East Lothian teacher. Yester Primary School teacher Michael Purves, who set up "Schoolovision 2009" saw his Gifford classroom link up live with schools across Europe on Friday. Estonia came second, 20 points below the winners' 200 point score with Scotland gaining 54 points to reach the middle of the score board.Schools uploaded a video of their song, representative of their country. Over 30 countries in Europe entered online with 23 countries taking part in the live hook up. The competition was held in the same way as the real Eurovision contest, which is being held on Saturday. Mr Purves told the BBC Scotland news website: "It was so successful and just brilliant today that I will be holding it again next year. "The children learned about Europe in the run up to the live competition by linking up with the schools in other countries to ask them lots of questions directly for their project rather than learning it from a book or the Internet, it was very powerful. "They were really excited as well when Scotland got votes during the live web link up." |
